In a press release by the German Africa Foundation, the 'German Africa Award' for 2013 has been awarded to Imam Dr Muhammad Ashafa and Pastor Dr James Wuye from Kaduna, northern Nigeria, who feature in the Initiatives of Change film The Imam and the Pastor.

The award ceremony will take place on 12 December 2013 in Berlin.

It was officially announced on 3 July 2013 by Ambassador Janetzke Wenzel, the representative of the Federal Republic of Germany, at the German Embassy in Abuja.

The two ministers are involved without precedent since the mid 90's for a peaceful coexistence of the people in the ethnic and religious conflicts stricken region. Former arch enemies, they went on to build the Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), the foundation for the dialogue for tolerance and respect and protest for the religiously motivated violence.

For their commitment to peace and reconciliation, the two will be awarded the German-Africa prize on 12 December 2013.

The German-Africa prize has been organized by the German Africa Foundation since 1993. It is awarded to outstanding personalities from Africa who have 'rendered outstanding contributions towards peace, democracy, human rights, development and culture of the continent.'
