Overview

A Clean Elections Campaign (CEC) is a call to all people of all backgrounds to commit themselves to consciously electing leaders of integrity without being manipulated through corruption or other unhealthy means. The campaign works by raising voter awareness that for elections to be clean, fair and free from corruption and intimidation, voters have to select leaders who reflect these qualities. Clean Elections Campaigns are strictly non party-political. No party has a monopoly on vice or virtue. Issues of corruption and integrity stand above party politics. The first CEC was launched in Taiwan in 1991 and proved to be very effective. Subsequent campaigns were launched in Kenya, 1995 & 2002, Solomon Islands, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The impact in those countries has been visible and other countries are considering it. Clean Election Campaigns are a programmes of national Initiatives of Change bodies, run in partnership with many other civil society organizations.
