The second Uganda Muslim and Christian Teachers’ Dialogue was held in Lira, Uganda, 31 May - 2 June. The theme of the conference was 'Enhancing Teachers Role in Development, Peace Building and Good Governance’. This was the first encounter of the work of Initiatives of Change in Northern Uganda
The participants were teachers, head teachers, tutors, principals of primary teachers colleges, District Education Officers, and political leaders.
'The chief guest was the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) LIRA District Mr Benon Rwangusha, the keynote address was delivered by Mr George Milton Abura, the District Education Officer - Lira. Other guests included the District Inspector of 
Schools, the Principal Canon Apollo Core Primary Teachers College, the Chairman Head Teachers Association Lira, members of Moral Re-Armament (Initiataives of Change) Uganda Chapter, and a youth leader of the Uganda Muslim Youth Association.
Speaking to the teachers, focussing on the theme of the day which states 'Moral-rearmament in the society', Rwanguha advised teachers to show a good example to the community by doing the right things because teachers are the role models of the nation.
'Any teacher found drinking alcohol during teaching hours will be arrested and will appear before a court for allegedly abusing their office and for being negligent of their duty', said Mr Rwanguah.
He made this statement when he was addressing teachers at a two day workshop which was organized by the Uganda Muslim and Christian Teachers' Dialogue that took place at Lira Municipal Council hall.
Meanwhile George Milton Abura, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Lira, said, 'We still have a lot of work before us to be done'. He told the organizer of the workshop that Lango Sub region has been disrupted by the LRA insurgency which took place for quite a long time in northern Uganda, during which time schools got burned and a numbers school properties were destroyed.
He said that in Lira district, only 40% of pupill sit at a desk while 60% sit on the floor. 'According to the research that i have done, it has come to my notice that most of the pupils drop out of school because of the unfriendly environment at school ', the DEO said. He urged teachers to treat children whom they teach as their personal sons and daughters.
During the course of the workshop teachers learned appropriate methods of handling problems that frequently arise both at school and in the community, so that they would be equipped with providing the best way of handling issues peacefully, rather than resorting to violence. They also learned how to manage small business (entrepreneurship skill).
