Enthusiastic Initiatives of Change (IofC) activists from across Africa met in Ethiopia to plan for the future. Forty-two people from 12 countries, representing national boards, teams and programmes, gathered in the town of Debre Zeit near Addis Ababa, from 5-9 March
The consultation agreed a regional framework consisting of three overarching strategic directions each with some clear priorities.
1. Starting with Ourselves
To embed the essence of IofC in the life of teams and boards and apply its core values to how we function; to implement inclusive & effective communications; and to develop new ideas and models for financial sustainability
2. Empowering Changemakers
To offer training in the core ideas and approach of IofC; to expand the pool of trainers; to build the capacity and practical skills of IofC teams; and to empower youth in positions of responsibility
3. Responding to critical situations in our focus areas
To address the challenge of good governance, ethical leadership and equality before the law; and to continue trustbuilding initiatives in South Sudan, the Great Lakes region and elsewhere.
The consultation also elected the new Africa Coordination Group to serve until 2016: Amina Dikedi-Ajakaiye (Nigeria – Convenor), Steve Kimaru (Kenya – Treasurer), Joanne Lubega (Uganda), Adalbert Otou Nguini (Cameroun), Abiodun Owoseni (Nigeria) and Roy Ncube (Zimbabwe)
Signed by all consultees from: Burundi, Cameroun, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe.
