Daisy Muthoni, a young lady from Kenya who participated in the Caux Internship programme in August 2011 shares of her experience.
Many words can describe the Initiatives of Change centre at Caux. Amazing is one of them, and is one that many used when they encouraged me to apply for this summer’s interns program. Arriving at Caux I discovered a place that did not fall short of this description, it is a place that is bustling with life, with people running up and down passionately working to improve their world…our world. A place where you can meet new people, new visions, and share your own. Yes, it does sound poetic almost too romantic, but these words are but a fraction of my experience as an intern at Caux.
I learnt more in the three weeks I spent at the program than I had ever imagined I would. Sure not everything was perfect, there were challenges here and there but that is exactly what made my time there so enriching! I learnt how to work with others to embrace diverse ways of thinking and to enjoy the subtle traits we all have in common; like our shared love for the breakfast cereal buffet every morning!
Working in the dining room was like a dream! I got to serve alongside an outstanding myriad of people, some of whom were older than me but never let age or status come in between the potential to interact and learn from one another. Yes, leadership is service, and it is what I saw, felt, and plan to put in practise the rest of life, wherever God takes me.
